PELLE PETTERSON: VÄRLDSMÄSTARE OCH LEGENDAR
Från praktikplats på Volvo till designikon för både bil- och båtindustrin. Pelle Petterson fann sitt fritidsintresse på havet utanför Kullavik, något som blev startskottet till en marin karriär. Här är historien om vår tids största legendar inom segling och industridesign. Bland hans design finns Volvos sportmodell P1800. Bilen blev kultförklarad, idag är P1800 en ikon för hela bilvärlden. Pelle Pettersons designprodukter sträcker sig långt, från klockor till en Stenafärja. Fler än 100 000 båtar har tillverkats efter Pelles design, inklusive Nimbus and Maxi Yachts.

Cecilia Petterson, dotter till Pelle Petterson, är grundare och designern bakom klädmärket Pelle P. Varumärket är baserat på Pelles livsstil och prestationer som idrottsman. Cecilia är uppvuxen bland seglinstävlingar och bergstopparna med sin far. Hon studerade vid Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising i Los Angeles, USA.

Pelle Pettersons seglingskarriär har resulterat i två OS-medaljer och ett 10-tal VM-guld i kappsegling. Han har dessutom utmanat i America’s Cup två gånger, något av det största en seglare kan göra. Bland alla utmärkelser han fått finns det några som är större än andra. Han har tagit emot ett pris från kung Gustav V:s hand efter att ha vunnit Kungakannan i Särö fyra gånger. Han har även tagit emot Kungliga tekniska högskolans Stora pris 2004 och H.M. Konungens medalj i 12:e storleken för särskilda förtjänster år 2011.

In the 40’s the soapbox racing was all the rage in Gothenburg and youngsters from all over town gathered to compete for honor and glory. This was a time of war and fuel was in short supply, thus leaving the streets empty for the competitors to race with their homemade engineless soapboxes.

EP.2 THE SKI JUMPER
“Gothenburg had great winters back then, with lots of snow. We used to tie our skis to the frame of our bikes and head up to the closest hill to practice. I went as often as I could.”
At an early age Pelle was seduced by snow, or shall we say the opportunities it provides. Before thoughts about the America’s Cup or Olympic Sailing had entered his mind, Pelle dreamed of becoming a ski jumper…
EP.3 THE bicycle pedals
In 2017 Sweden one of the contenders for the America’s Cup. They lost the challenger series finale to Emirates Team New Zealand, the team that later won the America’s Cup. Had the Swedes listened to Pelle Petterson perhaps the story would have a different ending for Artemis Racing.
In 1977 Pelle came up with the radical idea of using foot pedals to power the boat winches on the boat he designed for the cup, because legs are stronger than arms. When he visited the Artemis Racing design team, he proposed they use it too. They did not, but the Kiwis did…
Ep.4 Americas Cup 1977 & 1980
The year is 1977, for the first time ever, a Swedish team is competing in the America’s Cup. Pelle and his crew has found out that they are going to be housed at a place called Hammersmith Farm in Newport , Rhode Island. Let’s just put it this way, the name farm is a bit deceiving…
But this isn’t a story about housing, this is a story about a fight for glory and the Auld Mug, about a sailing team and a fantastic journey.
