20% for the ocean
As an alternative to Black Week, we created Ocean Week; a week where we take the opportunity to give back to our oceans and do our part to improve the marine environment. This year marks the sixth year, and it’s a tradition we intend to continue. That’s why we not only have special offers for you as a customer – we are also donating 20% of the gross profits from the week to the organization Ocean Crusaders.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?
The funds raised during the week go to the organization Ocean Crusaders, which conducts cleanup efforts in hard-to-reach areas. Examples include river cleanups in Halland and Skåne as well as coastal cleanups on Tistlarna in the Gothenburg archipelago. So far, these efforts have resulted in the collection of 47,850 tons of waste. The work has also enabled positive collaborations with local actors in each municipality. Globally, Ocean Crusaders has collected over 1,000 tons of debris.
WHAT ELSE ARE WE DOING?
Throughout the week, we use our channels to share "Ocean Facts" – information about the ocean and the marine environment. We also provide concrete tips on what you, as an individual, can do to reduce your own impact on the marine ecosystem.
In addition, since 2019, all our employees have been helping with coastal cleanups together with Ocean Crusaders. So far, we have collected just over 1,400 kg of waste.
WHAT IS OCEAN CRUSADERS?
Since the fall of 2019, Pelle P has partnered with the organization Ocean Crusaders, a collaboration we are very proud of. Plastic pollution in our oceans is a growing problem and a threat to marine life. Ocean Crusaders focuses on creating positive change, protecting and preserving marine wildlife, and preventing pollution through education and raising awareness, as well as by directly cleaning the oceans and coastlines.
Ocean Crusaders Australia was founded in 2010 by Ian Thomson after he broke the world record for solo sailing around Australia by 26 days. Thomson undertook the voyage to raise awareness about ocean pollution and its impact on marine life. Since then, the organization has grown, and today, Ocean Crusaders operates in six countries.
Ocean Crusaders Sweden was launched in the summer of 2018. The mission remains the same: to give back to our oceans and care for them so that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of the seas. This is done in four ways:
Education: Ocean Crusaders' educational materials are available in five languages, and the organization conducts training sessions and school activities.
Influence: Wherever Ocean Crusaders conduct cleanups, they work to raise awareness among the public and decision-makers. The goal is for everyone to know how they can help.
Engagement: Ocean Crusaders organizes public cleanup events and creates fun family days. They love collaborating with local businesses and other organizations.
Getting Their Hands Dirty: Ocean Crusaders works hard, rolling up their sleeves when needed, and tackles the most polluted and difficult-to-reach areas.
“We are sailors, divers, skippers, and skiers who love nature. We are passionate about helping and doing what we can to save the oceans. Being invited to collaborate with a respected brand like Pelle P is proof that we’re on the right track – and together, we can achieve even more!” – Ocean Crusaders
