The creation of Notch
this season's new premium ski wear
Cecilia Petterson shares her thoughts on the creation process of this season's new premium shell Notch.
Pelle Petterson was basically born with skis on his feet. With a Norwegian mother, not only cross-country and downhill skiing, but also ski jumping, became a natural part of his life. Thanks to sailing, Pelle got to know some good friends with connections to Switzerland. One thing led to another and soon the Alps became the family's winter paradise. Pelle took skiing as seriously as all his other projects. The trips were planned in detail to arrive the same moment as you could buy the ski pass. The Petterson’s was first in line early morning and skied until the lifts closed in the evening. It’s in that spirit all our ski collections are created, including the latest premium shell Notch.
Our chief designer, founder and CEO, Cecilia Petterson has extensive experience in creating ski clothing. It was actually her first assignment, right after senior high school. Unlike many others, Cecilia starts from a material that she likes when creating a garment.
– We work with quality, function and design, says Cecilia and continues:
– Function is one of the keys to a really good garment. The design often has to be adapted according to the function in order to achieve the right fit and mobility.
Cecilia draws a sketch which she then hands over to pattern making for technical specification. All patterns are designed at the head office in Billdal outside Gothenburg. They are then forwarded to the supplier. Testing of the garment takes place in Billdal.
– Together we look at everything from the smallest detail to how the garment fits and how you can move in it. Everyone must have their say. Sometimes comments and thoughts lead to changes, sometimes I get to justify why I think something should be a certain way. When the final test is approved, it is time for the garment to go into production.
The right equipment paves the way to what we call True Experience, that you can practice your sport in complete comfort without thinking about what you’re wearing. This season's novelty, Notch, complements the existing collection, which ranges from versatile garments to the most advanced shell especially designed with the extreme skier in mind.
– Notch is a low weight, stretchable and breathable shell with a long lifespan, something that ours freeride skiers especially demand, says Cecilia and continues:
– The design is clean, but has all the niceties and typical details you would expect. It is a shell garment that covers the whole season. It protects from the elements while being breathable. The heat is regulated from the inside with suitable base- and middle layers.
Notch is available in the colors Beige Oak, Toffee and Ink. The soft and light purple color Catleya is only available for women. These colors are far from a coincidence. There are many parameters to consider choosing colors and a meticulous work lays behind every tint.
– The big picture is important. Trends come into play, while the colors must last over time. In addition, new collections must go in tone with older ones so that our customers can combine and complement the garments. It is an important part of our sustainability strategy, concludes Cecilia.
