The Magenta Project
Sailing is one of the few professional sports where women and men compete on equal terms. Yet women remain underrepresented in professional sailing and the wider marine industry. The Magenta Project is working to change that.
The Magenta Project is a charitable organization established in 2015 after Team SCA competed in the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race. The campaign showed what is possible when female sailors have the right conditions and opportunities to compete at the highest level.
The organization’s mission is to create greater equity and inclusion for women in sailing and the wider marine industry by breaking down the barriers that limit opportunities to participate, develop and build a career.
Access to experience, training, networks, and opportunities to get on the water plays a vital role in taking the next step. The Magenta Project works through mentoring, leadership development, on-water training, and learning programs.
A central part of its work is building a global network where sailors, mentors, companies, and organizations share knowledge, experience, and opportunities. This way, Team SCA's legacy lives on while new pathways are created for the next generation.
